NTU's WKWSCI is a school that prides itself on its familial and close-knit student community, and encourages students to participate in student planned events such as our annual theme weeks or homecoming week. WKWSCI also has a system where students can start their own interest clubs (casually known as "weecans", cause well, we can do it!) and thus came about Weenails, stemming from the love of the growing nail painting culture.
(Co-founder) Sally and I, one day decided that it would be fun to start documenting our nail polish designs since we used to do our own nails once every few weeks. That started off as us creating cute curated instagram posts of our nail designs and posting them on Instagram for other WKWSCI students (here on out known as weekids) to see! It was just our way of adding a bit more fun to our pretty dull student lives.
From there, Weenails grew and many weekids commented how cute the initiative was and how they wanted to get their nails done by us! Our first big accomplishment was becoming a full-fledged weecan and holding our first ever Press-ons Nail Workshop that was in line with WKWSCI 30th Anniversary celebrations.
As a creative, the main "creative" work done was our weekly Instagram posts and stories of documenting weekids' nail polish designs. The Press-ons workshop also allowed us to get a bit more wild in creating our own weenails press-ons sticker card that participants got to take home.
One of the more iconic weenails posts was brat and dress to impress themed post. The timing was immaculate, the copy was full of chronically online slang, the editing ate.
Really hoping weenails will be the greatest legacy I leave in my university life! Here's to more cute nail art ♥
My best memory of WeeNails will always be our press ons workshop. Logistically, setting it up was a lot of work, but it was a great experience organising a workshop that allowed us to teach likeminded hobbyists more about manicuring. It was also very fun seeing the different nail creations that everyone made!
Starting a whole interest group and having to manage it was definitely one of the more challenging points of WeeNails. What started out as a lighthearted weekly creative expression led to recruiting other interested students to work with us in providing manicures, managing finances and logistics, and even handling graphic design. However, this challenge was definitely a worthwhile one, seeing that WeeNails is currently on its 3rd Generation of committee members!
